Artist's Vision and PhilosophyThe process of focusing on a place, person or event and encapsulating it at a precise moment in time has always held a great fascination for me. What I now do with this captured moment and how I translate it has become intoxicating. Discovering what was once considered a chemical aberration in the process of Polaroid film became, for me, a means by which I could experiment and take my photographic background to a new and exciting artistic plane. Using my “paint brushes” which include stylus, embossing pen and a variety of experimental implements, allows me a range of creativity that continues to evolve. The technique I use results in a 3” x 3” original photographic painting. The process is applied to an original SX-70 Time Zero photograph, which can then be enlarged to almost any size given our current technology. It is a blending of the old and the new. The type of film I use was created in the 1970’s. It became more difficult to obtain as production had been reduced and efforts made to correct the emulsions “defects”. With a resurgence of interest in this technique and development of supportive technology, the art has reached increasing levels of refinement and is being recognized as a viable, sought after art form. I continue to experiment both in technique and print process. Not including the time spent obtaining the original photograph, refining and printing; I work with an image for a minimum of an hour and a half to achieve the results I am looking for. The culmination of all these steps is a fine art giclée. The subject matter has no limits. Ranging from the mundane to the monumental, whimsical to romantic, my process and how I view the world is reflected in the final print. It is a very personal interpretation. I have been photographing for over 20 years. What started as a pleasant pastime has progressed to a gratifying, all consuming passion. Please make sure to join me May 18 - 20, 2007 for the Focus On The Masters Studio Tour weekend. Linda F. Peterson
